Would you like to learn the technical skills of drawing and painting the portrait? This 4 evening portrait workshop will give you a step by step plan of the stages of portrait drawing and painting. Every participant will improve – no special genius required.
This course is for intermediate and advanced artists who want to take their drawing and painting to the next level. Learn about light source, composition, and the technical skills of drawing of painting the portrait. During this workshop you will discover the skill of comparative measurement essential to draw a portrait from life - the likeness is found in the proportions. Course content will focus on the stages of how to construct a drawing and painting. Every participant will gain a deeper understanding of form, shape, value, shadow, and light families. These principles will be taught by demonstration and individualized instruction. The first evening everyone will begin with a graphite pencil and paper. Most artists greatest struggle with painting is drawing – the aim of this workshop is to improve student’s ability to draw before beginning the painting segment of the workshop. We will have the same model for the entire four weeks so participants have the option to draw for the entire workshop or paint for 2 or 3 of the course evenings.
Angela Muellers is a local artist with 30 years experience. She has completed ten years of full time studies at three schools with several workshops from American artists. She has been a finalist in the Art Renewal Center’s competition and won a purchase award.
