The focus of this workshop is to create urban landscape paintings that are loose and impressionistic and can be completed quickly. He will teach how to create paintings that demand attention and capture the viewer’s eye, drawing from the expressive use of colour. As an added bonus you will discover how easy it is to include people and vehicles into your paintings.
Participants will learn:
- How to use urban landscape elements to create an effective composition
- Use of figures, vehicles, and buildings to create paintings that tell a story
- Master the elements of watercolour painting: value, creative brushwork, and luminous washes
- Understand the critical importance of water in watercolour painting
- Use of expressive colour and techniques for maximum impact
As a retired school teacher Rex has learned the value of practicing techniques before actually applying them.He has created a series of mini-lessons on specific topics such as cars, people, value, and creative brushwork. By doing these practices he creates a comfort level for everyone. This allows everyone to work more freely when it comes to doing the actual painting.
Although this workshop is geared to those with painting experience, all experience levels are welcome. Please be in touch if you have questions.
Rex started painting in watercolour as a young child and has never outgrown it. Something in that mysterious interaction between water and pigment continues to fascinate and inspire. Water can’t be controlled, and as a watercolourist Rex says, "he must let go and enjoy the ride". He feels rewarded by the many spontaneous surprises that watercolour offers.
