This workshop focuses on seeing and rendering accurate values and colors to create precise relationships within your painting to render the effects of light. Students will start the session working from photo reference. Then in the studio some small study exercises will be practiced as a way to hone the skills necessary to achieve the effects of light on canvas. Weather permitting, we will paint outdoors focusing on colour composition and finished field sketches. Overall, you will learn colour mixing, design, outdoor painting logistics, and other practical techniques to improve light in your paintings.
Although this workshop is geared to those with painting experience, all experience levels are welcome. Please be in touch if you have questions.
Instructor:
Gaye Adams feels blessed to live the life of a painter, which is an ongoing exploration of that which she finds beautiful, from the everyday to the extraordinary. What drives her to the easel is her love of rendering light. Backlight, cast shadow, bounced light – all of it is mesmerizing. She enjoys other elements present in the visual field like colour and design… but the light is what hooks her every time.
